Course Curriculum

Precourse Work: Before You Start

The precourse work will prepare you for using several diabetes care and management tools included in the DMU program.  

In module 1 we look at current and emerging trends in diabetes management and also discuss our role within the diabetes circle of care.

A review of the targets for diagnosing prediabetes, diabetes and insight into whether diabetes can be prevented.


A detailed discussion on the problem areas in diabetes and current treatment options.

How blood sugar testing and contiuous glucose monitoring is used to inform diabetes care.

An often neglected, understated and avoided area of diabetes management by health care professionals, we discuss ways to engage patients who need support for what is often a very difficult journey to navigate.

Discussing weight and addressing weight bias can help us address barriers to success for our patients.  We will explore evidence-based obesity management tools and resources.

One of the most challenging areas of diabetes management for patients, we provide several approaches to diabetes nutrition to help clients be successful with using carb management as a part of their diabetes care.

We review the types of insulin available in Canada, insulin action and how to help patients “Learn to Think Like a Pancreas”.

Wrap up and evaluation.

The Diabetes Manager University DMU program is 9 modules.  We recommend you work through 1 module each week as the topics build upon previous modules.  

You have 1 year to finish the course.  You have lifetime access to this version of the program and will be invited to any major updates of the DMU program by email.

Michelle Archer, RD, CDE is the owner of Diabetes Training 101 Inc. and she facilitates the online DMU, the in-person 3 day DMU training program and several other diabetes training programs.

Refunds are considered within the first module only.  Due to the considerable tools, resources, and support you receive in this program, once you have accessed the second module of the program, you are agreeing to waive your right to a refund.  If things change and you cannot complete the program within 1 year, we will grant you a program credit towards a future training program, membership or mentorship at Diabetes Training 101 Inc.  You can use that credit yourself or transfer it to a colleague.  You will be responsible for any additional fees above your program credit needed for any additional programs or services you sign up for.
